Florida defensive back picks Purdue

Florida defensive back Simeon Smiley has committed to Purdue following a weekend official visit, he said.

"I was already think throughout the process about where I knew I wanted to go," Smiley said. "That was Purdue.

"There was a lot to Purdue that I liked. I liked the snow, for one thing. Other than that, I liked the coaches, the facilities and the academic part has a lot to offer. And I want to be a part of something special."

The 6-foot, 195-pound Rivals.com three-star prospect was recruited by the Boilermaker staff to play cornerback.

"They like my size," Smiley said. "That's what a lot of coaches have said. They how I hit and how I cover and how long my arms are, my wingspan. They think I'm smart as a player.

"(DBs coach Taver Johnson) said he wants to play a lot of press man (coverage), and they think I fit into that because of my size."

Smiley chose Purdue over Minnesota, South Alabama and Troy.

Smiley and Texas offensive lineman Grant Hermanns were Purdue's lone two visitors on campus this weekend.
