GoldandBlack.com's Purdue player draft: No. 7 overall
This summer, the Boilermakers are being divided.
Reporters Stacy Clardie and Kyle Charters keep pushing forward Tuesday in GoldandBlack.com's Purdue player draft, a daily selection in which separate groups of 25 are assembled over the next two months. In late July, we'll decide — based on GoldandBlack.com staff and member feedback — which team would win.
Clardie's up with the No. 7 overall pick, and she chooses ...
Dang, I really wanted DeAngelo Yancey. He was next up on my list. I figured Kyle may be feeling like he really needed to take an offensive player with his third pick — and then I essentially pushed him into it with my Da’Wan Hunte pick. If I’d gotten Hunte and Yancey, yikes for Kyle. So he made the smart move. Still, I’m a bit bummed.
And Kyle forces my hand a bit, too, with the Yancey pick. I have to have the next-best receiver — and I also really like this guy — so I’m going with senior Cameron Posey.
Overall, the receiving corps had a good spring, but Posey really stuck out as a guy who seemed to make big strides. He transformed — at least in my eyes — from a guy who was reliable and sure-handed to a guy who also proved he could make big plays consistently and rack up yards after the catch. With Terry Malone’s offense, Posey should be targeted frequently in the quick-hitter game, and with Posey's savvy, skill and quickness, he could be a difficult matchup in the slot.
Though Yancey is Purdue’s go-to big-play receiver, Posey just as easily could have as many catches over a season while also being a third-down, middle-of-the-field-type specialist. I’m happy about the pick.
