Kerrigan joins fundraising effort

Another former Boilermaker has pledged a significant amount of money to the football performance complex.

Ryan Kerrigan, an All-American when he played at Purdue, will give $250,000 for the project, the school announced Monday.

“It’s important for me to give back because I was really fortunate to have the time that I did at Purdue,” Kerrigan said in a release. “I love this university. I love the people I’ve gotten to know through it, and if I can be a part of giving back and helping the future teams and future student-athletes, then it’s my honor to be a part of that.

“The steps that Purdue has taken to get their facilities up to snuff with some of the elite programs around the country is vital for the future of the program, and I think it definitely will attract more recruits and should help the program immensely.”

According to Purdue, the department has raised $13.4 million so far for the project, which is expected to be in the $65-million range. The exact cost for the project won’t be known until design development documents are finalized and the project is bid, the release said.

Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2016 and conclude in August 2017.

“Guys like Ryan just get it,” AD Morgan Burke said in a release. “They understand the demands on our student-athletes and the need to have first-class facilities that are centralized to improve efficiency. It says so much when one of our own steps forward, and I thank Ryan for his gift and unwavering support.”
