Spike Albrecht signs with Purdue

More: Spike Albrecht Q&A | Analysis ($) | Projected Purdue roster

Not that there was any suspense, but fifth-year transfer guard Spike Albrecht has signed his scholarship paperwork with Purdue, the school announced.

Albrecht comes to the Boilermakers from Michigan, from which he has graduated, freeing him to transfer with immediate eligibility to play out his final season of college basketball.

“Spike will bring a great level of experience, toughness and leadership to our backcourt,” Coach Matt Painter said in a released statement. “He has the experience of competing in a Final Four and in the Big Ten Conference and he will only make our team better. We are very excited to have him join our program.”

It is not yet known when Albrecht will arrive at Purdue, but the Crown Point native will be part of the team starting this summer and have a chance to continue his rehabilitation from knee surgery on campus, and join the Boilermakers on their August exhibition tour to Spain.

Albrecht still needs to secure a waiver from the Big Ten to transfer within the conference, but Michigan released him unconditionally and precedent is on his side after Max Bielfeldt transferred from Michigan to Indiana last spring.
